About Brian Mole

Helen and Brian Mole
Brian and Helen Mole

Hello, I’m Brian Mole. My family business is based in Southwater near Horsham in West Sussex. I live with my lovely wife Helen, our two amazing children; Louise and Simon, and Minnie the cat. Minnie, is in fact the head of the family, as well as ensuring we are all chilled out. She rules the roost from the comfort and warmth of our laps. You may meet her as she oversees Zoom meetings occasionally!

My daughter Louise often helps out at parties and wedding fairs, or as a roadie / technician / driver. She’s the cute one with green hair, and works in the events industry having graduated from Backstage Academy.

Simon is a brilliant house, garage, and drum and bass DJ. Together, we mix under the Mole and Son brand. I could be a bit biased here, but you can listen to him DJ’ing with me during the coronavirus lockdown in a series of live mixes Simon challenged me to do! Together, we are DJing some very special events this year.

My incredible wife Helen runs her own business making fabulous looking crepe paper flowers and bouquets, and running crafting workshops.

When we’re not working, Helen and I love discovering the rest of the british isles in our Westfalia campervan when we can get away. During the Coronavirus crisis, I joined the NHS as a temporary bank administrator. My work on the mass vaccination project in Sussex, has been amazing in so many ways.

As a family, we have environmentally friendly, sustainable and ethical practices central to our lives, and I do my best to apply this to my business.

I am very proud to be an expert wedding DJ and Master of Ceremonies.  Just imagine; I get to meet some wonderful people. I help them plan and deliver what is essentially the best day of their lives.  This really has to be the best job in the world, right?!

Having lived in France and with family there, I am bilingual in French and English. Should you be looking for a French speaking DJ or MC, your search is over!

A multi award winning DJ

Brian Mole: TWIA 2019 Wedding DJ of the year National Highly Commended

In 2016 and 2017, I achieved Regional Finalist in the much respected Wedding Industry Awards.  I am very fortunate to have been awarded Wedding DJ of the year 2019 and 2018 for the London and the South East region.  This year, I have also won the National Highly Commended award for 2019 Wedding DJ of the year! The Wedding Industry Awards are much respected by the whole industry. As they are based purely on feedback from our actual clients, the level of all my colleagues is very high.  And as you can imagine, this means a lot to me – I love my clients, and my job!

This year, I am very proud to return as a member of the judging team for The Wedding Industry Awards.

Brian Mole, Awarded DJ’s DJ Award 2020

To my complete surprise, I was awarded the DJ’s DJ award by Pro Mobile Magazine, in 2020. This means a huge amount to me as this is from my peers in the mobile DJ industry.

“Brian was the most perfect DJ a bride could ask for. He is so passionate about what he does and it really shows in the amounts of work he puts in. He really got to know us and because of this he had extra ideas to make our day even more special. I did not have to worry about anything on the day as Brian has sorted everything. We are always recommending Brian to all our friends and family, he was just perfect. Our wedding day would not have been the same without him.”

My business

As this business is my full time day job, I have a relentless passion to bring fun, joy and love to each event I work on. Unlike so many of my competitors who have many average DJs of varying ability on their books, I am the DJ who will turn up to visit you. Therefore I am the DJ who will be exclusively working on your event and 100% committed to its complete success.  Sometimes, I do need to pinch myself to check I am doing this as a career. It really is the best job in the world!

An expert DJ

I started DJing in the early 1980s mainly for friends, clubs and peoples’ birthday parties as a hobby.  For many years, I progressed, DJing many corporate events, clubs, and weddings alongside a full time day job.  A few years ago my IT career came to an unexpected halt. I then decided to make the transition to being a full time DJ, doing what I love for a living.

I have performed at thousands of parties over the years. I have built a reputation for getting people dancing and having a good time.  Several agencies have me on their books as their premium DJ.

My DJing style

Far from being the stereotypical local mobile DJ who has to be the arrogant, know-it-all comical star of the party and is always saying something, I provide a smooth mix of the right music for the audience with just the required amount of appropriate talk and properly rehearsed and prepared introductions, delivered through an exceptionally clear sound system chosen to complement the venue. I ‘read’ audience reactions and physically mix music to a very high standard, ensuring every function is a success. My clients expect to hear DJing that is technically of the same high standard as they have experienced at clubs and festivals, and this is what I deliver.

Music

My musical tastes have their roots in the late seventies and early eighties dance music, from artists such as The Fatback Band, D-Train, Maze, and Soul II Soul. These have progressed through the evolution of dance music as we know it today which gives me passion and enthusiasm for my art.  But don’t for one minute think that this is all I can play!  I work with my clients to play the music that they love to dance to. This can be absolutely any style of music.

Training

I am committed to learning new skills, and continue to attend various DJ and MC related courses in order to embrace and make the most of new technology and to learn new skills. My favourite performance tools consist of the awesome Pioneer ProDJ RekordboxDJ DDJ-1000, DDJ-FLX10, and the incredible Pioneer DJ Opus Quad. These enable me to stretch my creative skills to new boundaries.

Master of Ceremonies

A natural part of what I do for my clients on their wedding day is the Master of Ceremonies.  I am a Marbecca graduate, having taken the Bronze, Silver and Gold workshops.  This workshop and mentor based training has been invaluable in so many ways.

My Industry Credentials

From 2012 to 2015,I served as Chairman of SEDA. I was also a committee member for some 10 or so years in various positions.  The South Eastern Discotheque Association, this is a strong regional association with over 200 members. It promotes good practice, health and safety, and the art of DJing.

I am always keen to share my skills with other DJs and to network with like minded professional DJs in the industry. I have run several mixing workshops seminars and demos in recent years as well as continuing to improve my skills with regular mentoring and workshops.

I am also a member of NADJ – the National Association of DJs, and am a regular contributor to ProMobile Magazine, the only publication in the UK specifically aimed at Mobile DJs, where they will find technical reviews and articles I have regularly written about the industry.

The 80’s Night; founder and resident DJ

A more recent project, which has been a huge success is The 80’s Night.  Having noticed a lack of 80’s entertainment in my local hometown of Horsham, I thought it would be a good idea to put on such a night.  So, together with a few colleagues, I brainstormed the idea, and The 80’s Night was born.

All our events at the Holbrook Club in Horsham were a great success, selling out completely before the event!  I have several more dates locked in for these in Horsham, so keep an eye on our Facebook Page, or website for the latest.

My colleagues are also running these nights in North London, Hertfordshire, and Buckinghamshire. If you want an 80’s night themed party, just get in touch!  And of course, the common question of “Can we come and see you work?” can now be answered by popping in to a Horsham 80’s night!

The funky shirts!

Brian's funky floral shirts

One of the things that regularly gets commented on is my shirts!  In 2009, I left full time employment and corporate life for good. I thought it would be more fun to reflect some personality in what I wear.  Instead of wearing boring white shirts with my suits, you will often find me in a tasteful floral shirt.  Judging by all the comments I get, people do love these!
