14 bangers which will rock a wedding in 2024

Here we are in 2024, and here is a question I get asked regularly. What music will totally rock the dance floor at my wedding this year? Well, surprisingly, although it depends on who is there, there are many favourites which always make a massive impression, along with a few newer songs which light up the atmosphere. Let’s take a look at my list for 2024:

The 14 wedding bangers for 2024

  1. Mr Brightside – The Killers; probably the most requested singalong drunken anthem ever, which has the best impact when played near the end of the party. Interestingly, this song in it’s original recording sounds absolutely awful. Thankfully, I play a version which was brilliantly remastered to sound amazing by the hugely talented Paul Dakeyne from my good friends at Mastermix.
  2. Abba – Dancing Queen; this needs no introduction!
  3. Sister Sledge – We are family; a late 70’s disco classic from then Nile Rogers stable which guarantees a full dance floor every time. This fabulous track was used in a film called Babel, one of my favourite films.
  4. Earth, Wind and Fire – September; another late 70’s disco monster which nobody can resist dancing to!
  5. Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me); Another timeless classic, this song never fails to get everyone singing and dancing.
  6. The Weeknd – Blinding Lights; This more recent song has been a massive hit with my clients, mainly due to its upbeat tempo and catchy melody.
  7. Robin S – Show Me Love; I remember buying this house classic as a 12″ record on the Champion label back in the early 90’s, and I totally wore it out! Oddly, it wasn’t till the turn of the millenium when this started to get more and more requested at weddings, and for many years since, it has been guaranteed to fill a dance floor. It’s very rare for me to not play this at a wedding.
  8. Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline; a massive singalong anthem which seems to be popular with every age group. Somebody told me it had something to do with football?!
  9. Gala – Freed from Desire; a massive Eurodance song by an Italian artist living in New York from the late 90’s. This unique, high energy handbag house song is just awesome at getting a crowd raving near the end of a party.
  10. Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk; ever since it was released in 2014, I think every function band I have worked with have mastered this catchy, infectious and extremely popular dance floor filler, and I still get many requests for it. However, I suspect people are now getting tired of hearing it, as it’s starting to appear on my client’s “Don’t you dare” lists.
  11. Darude – Sandstorm; a corking trance anthem from the turn of the millenium, which is full of energy, and loved by so many!
  12. Faithless – Insomnia; one of my all time favourite songs. The drop, six and a half minutes into the Monster Mix full length version of this song is insane. A track which has to be played in full, and LOUD! I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t love it.
  13. Chase & Status and Bou – Baddadan; this drum and bass absolute monster first appeared in the summer of 2023. Fuelled by Chase & Status’s prolific appearances at summer festivals worldwide, and the fact that drum and bass is very much in the mainstream, demand for this is huge. It has to be the one single song which has made the biggest impact on the dance floor, not only at general parties, but at pretty much all the weddings I have worked on since, and there’s no sign of the pressure dropping.
  14. Tina Turner – Proud Mary; written by CCR, this anthem starts slowly, and builds to an explosive end, such a phenomenal song loved by everyone, and I play the whole five and a half minutes, usually near the end of a party.

Bonus banger!

I’m going to add another track to this little list, because it was released earlier this year (2024), and the reaction from guests at weddings I see is incredible. I think this will be one of the biggest tunes of the year without a doubt!

  • Beyoncé – Texas Hold ‘Em; celebrating the black roots of country music is a bold direction to take for the very astute and business savvy hip-hop and rnb star, well played Queen Bey!

I booked Brian for our small informal wedding reception, he was amazing from start to finish, great communication, easy playlist selection and on the night he read the room perfectly and kept everyone up and dancing even though it was quite a small crowd. Lots of great feedback from my guests, a great night, highly recommend!
